Soul Traps & Enchantments

Ok, can someone explain to me what changes were done in Morroblivion in regards to soul trapping and enchantments?  While in Morrowind, I attempted to soul trap a Golden Saint into a Grand Soul gem, but was informed the gem was not big enough. This was something that worked in the original Morrowind.  I then attempted with a Black Soul gem, and that worked, but there was no enchantment option when I clicked on the Black Soul gem.

There are no changes. You can

There are no changes.

You can only soultrap NPCs in Black Soul Gems. And to enchant items you need to find an enchanter. From your inventory you can only recharge magic items.

What was changed in Morrowind

You apparently misunderstood my question, so I'll rephrase.

In Morrowoblivion, what was changed in the Morrowind portion from the original Morrowind game in regards to soul trapping and enchantments?  How can you enchant an object from within Morrowind?

Quite simply, Morroblivion

Quite simply, Morroblivion uses the Oblivion system for soul trapping/enchanting. Everything changed between Morrowind and Oblivion is thus changed between Morrowind and Morroblivion. The only exception is that Oblivion's enchantments for armor are all constant effect, so a special system had to be done for most of the Morrowind enchantments to make any sense.

Read here for the Oblivion system of enchanting: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Enchanting

And here's the cast-when-used system Morroblivion adds: http://morroblivion.com/forums/morroblivion/mods/2657

How to enchant in Morrowind?

How do you enchant an item with the Levitate spell? It doesn't work in the Chironasium - the Levitate spell isn't listed even though I have it in my spell list.

Find an Altar of Enchantment

Find an Altar of Enchantment in Vvardenfell (oh, right, it's on NPCs).

As for levitation, cast when used enchantments cannot be added to items (yet), and I don't think it comes in constant effect form, so you cannot enchant anything with levitate in default Morroblivion.

Also, Cyrodiil is the province, Oblivion's the game's name (Oblivion being an in-game place as the multiverse of all the daedric realms).

So how do you do the

So how do you do the enchantements in Morrowind?

Find an NPC who provides enchanting services and speak to him about "Enchanting". The rest is the same as with altar in the Arcane University.

Also, how do you enchant an item with the Levitate spell?

Only using this. Otherwise, levitation spells are scripted and therefore unavailable for custom enchantments.

The levitate spell is constant effect, and you can enchant items with the levitate spell in the original Morrowind game. I'm trying to duplicate that in Morroblivion.

Lost Magic Mod

I downloaded OBME and your Lost Magic mod, and installed it using Wrye Bash.  I have it enabled.  I then ran Morroblivion and went to the enchanter in Balmora.  Upon attempting to enchant, the Levitate spell is not being listed.  Is there a certain order in the mod listing for this mod?

Not possible without OBME.

Yes, it's better to load it last.

I just checked and custom enchanting with levitation works:

What spell with levitate effect do you have?

Not working for me

I have the Levitate, Wild Levitate and Slowfall spells.

The symptoms are is that it appears the Lost Magic module is not running.  And yes the module is enabled.  What version of OBME are you using?

In poking around, I noticed a OBME file was created in the Oblivion directory.  The file looks like a log file. These statements stuck out:

MagicItem: Load: Found unrecognized chunk 'ENCH'
MagicItem: Load: Found unrecognized chunk 'ENCH'
MagicItem: Load: Found unrecognized chunk 'ENCH'
MagicItem: Load: Found unrecognized chunk 'ENCH'
MagicItem: Load: Found unrecognized chunk 'ENCH'
MagicItem: Load: Found unrecognized chunk 'ENCH'

Do you know what that means?

More testing

I installed OBME_DSPLE_example.esp, one of the OBME example scripts.  When I brought up Morroblivion, the script ran and added new spells and magic items into my inventory.  This indicates OBME is properly installed and running.

Are there any tests I can do with the Lost Magic module to help debug it?  For whatever reason, it appears to be not running for me.

Type in console "startquest mwlostmagictest" - this will set all your magic skills to 100 and add most of the spells with new effects.

Update

OK, Levitate was not appearing in the enchant menu, even though I had the spell.  After I typed "startquest mwlostmagictest", the Levitate spell then appeared in the Enchant menu.  Slowfall is not listed in the Enchant menu, though I think I know what's happening now. After you install Lost Magic module, you have to reacquire the spells for the mod to do their thing on them.

Now that I know how it works, I can enchant levitate. Thanks for your help!
