There is another artist, Mr E, who is doing a more nasty varient, like an indian street rat. We can convert these varients into dens plan for rust/cave rats
2 Denevir, i think this Cave/Rust Rat, i make skins versions... But, what difference between Cave and Rust ? For example, this Cave Rat. Then Then Rust Rat more disgusting?
Honestly I don't see why the Skyrim Skeevers couldn't just be recolored and renamed. They're pretty damn disgusting critters already. It's also less work than making something entirely new and slapping it on the Skeever skeleton. I already know I'm going to be griped at and downvoted for saying this.

A skeever is somewhere between a rat and a beaver. Rats aren't the same animal in a different place. So no, just doing a reskin of a skeever is not kosher. Also: I really like your model, Gree. :)
skeever are just not rats we want those ho play skywind and skyblivion to think rat not lazy recolerd skeever its just that simpel
I dont see why this get -3 karma but whatever x)
I agree with you and a re-couloured skeever would just look lazy, especially when we already have a fantastic model like this that (in my opinion) looks better then the skeever.
the only thing I would like to see changed is the tail: it could be a bit more scalier and darker.
Since we're having different versions made, perhaps make this one rust rat (rust name from color perhaps), and have it be found where one would expect to find rats - cities, meadows, sewers, swamps. The gnarlier rat Mister E is making could be more ashen colored and be found in the wastes, and cave rats we could go with a blind rat based off naked molerats. Because hairless things which are normally fuzzy are terrifying.
I don't see how utilizing Skyrim resources for a Skyrim mod is lazy, but whatever. I also really don't see any beaver in the skeever beyond their names rhyming, it's a big ass rat.
That's the problem with giving things real-world names. You restrict yourself to the real world archetype. But even in the real world a rat isn't just a rat.
And as previously mentioned, both of these actual rodents have less rat like features than an opossum - a marsupial.
This is why the mudcrab went from looking like an archaic horseshoe crab thing with giant stag beetle pincers to a boring normal Earth looking crab. Literal minded people who saw 'crab' and frowned at the old one as 'not a crab'. They'd probably turn a horseshoe crab into a normal crab too if they first saw it in a game and weren't aware it was a real creature.
That would be the waste rat, living in the dry ashen wastes. Vivec, Balmora, the various tombs and sewers - these aren't 'harsh' environments for a normal rat.

Or they'd insist on attaching legs or tentacles to the cephalopod's head :D
Personally, I'd rather have a nastier-looking Skeever, adapted to Morrowind's harsh environment, than a traditional rat.
I don't know... "Velothi/Ash Skeever" or something.
The issue is that skeevers are not, nor have they ever been, native to Morrowind. I'm fine with the large rodent not exactly being an Earth rat (though, it's more like a relatively small ROUS), but just using a skeever is lore-breaking, will come across as lazy and half-assed to the players and long time Morrowind fans, and will make it harder to port Skywind into TES VI in the long run.
While not intimidating, Chinchillas tend to love ash. You even "bathe" them in volcanic ash to keep their skin healthy. Of course, I can't imagine anyone seeing a wild chinchilla and shrieking in terror. They're pretty adorable.
Eh, I'd say the rat you have here is a rust rat, closest to the original from Morrowind. Maybe make them a dark auburn? Maybe have a little gray around their faces like elderly animals get. But if we're going to have multiple rat models no need for recolors, just different models entirely is even better!
> original skeever
= I think you yet could look on teeth of normal rat. Now it looks in some sort of toothless.
> I think to make a separate model - the sick body and with signs of rabies. I think it will be interesting
= Yes it will be interesting. But now it looks like bloody fur, not like disease. You can make it more bald and with tumors in some parts.
PM me if need some material.
New on here. Long time lurker. You guys have a major fan and really appreciate what you guys are doing and how large this project has become. So thanks.
To my point. I think skeever is "the evolution of names" I mean look at Arena we used to fight "lizard people". I think that Bethesda took the hum dum rat and ran with it finally. I wouldn't mind if you called the boring earth rat something else. I like the old mudcrab too now they look blah.
Good enough for me. Maybe the problem is head, it is quite cute.
Maybe try add to it "evil" expression. I know that rats don't have mimicry but it would be cool to show them more disquieting and ugly. Then they are more similar to original. But again, it is good enough.
For Skywind and Skyblivion
I don't recall Skeevers being in Morrowind/Oblivion. Great model though!

In Morrowind and Oblivion they are referred to as rats not skeevers :p
Skeevers and rats are 2 different creatures but your model looks GREAT!
it does need some teeth when i look closly
Yeah dude, those are rats, not skeevers (apart from Skyrim, of course).
cool, can you make the tail more disgusting?
There is another artist, Mr E, who is doing a more nasty varient, like an indian street rat. We can convert these varients into dens plan for rust/cave rats
thats a brilliant idea!
Ok, rat :-) But I think Skeever is 'renamed rat' which allocated as a new unit in TES. Not seen Skeever in the early parts of TES
2 Ravanna, good :-)
DaedricLord, texture? Ok, I want to make skins versions
I guess skeever is just nordic slang for a big ass rat.
I'm cool with renaming. Gives more artistic license.

2 JorgenGorgen, I do not like this "ragged dog" from Sky. Because did the "rat-rat" variant, not "rat-dog".
2 DaedricLord, thanks

Pretty sure waste is referring to the ash wastes. Not fecal waste.
Actually, they are quite different but yeah anyway

Rat tails are boring. Possums! Possums where it's at!
Smite knows what Im talking about x)
Ok i will comment it too. I think this creature could be made more distinguished from rat and based on creatures like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmanian_devil
Special attention : creature of this size not squeak like rat, they are producing much louder and lower creepy screams.

This is a WIP by mr E. It'll be the largest nastiest rats, mofo
Nice. There are strange only too large diastema and tooth and jaws in general: it need more masticatory muscles (and cheeks)

Here's an especially rat-like rodent called the nutria.
Compare that to the kangaroo 'rat'.

2 Smitehammer absolutely agree, that right. For high level of detail, should be treated details

Tentative classification:
Cave Rat: Grey Rat, Brown Rat, Waste Rat
Rust Rat: "versions mr E", Waste Rat
WIP by Greealiss:
Grey Rat
Brown Rat
Experiment (Waste Rat)
Good work, but completely wrong teeth.

teeth - original skeever. increased and processed
Waste Rat - this expirimental sample. I think to make a separate model - the sick body and with signs of rabies. I think it will be interesting

2 alysander. Morrowind rat - more predator, then scavenger or rodent.
with teeth have technical difficulties... but I have an idea, let's see what we can do.
2 Smitehammer. >Maybe make them a dark auburn?
I can (пример)
I initially repelled by such a hue. then made more yellow under the overall concept of the new characters SkyWind.
also if commenting on somthing beter not revive the very old topic
but nowe this is revived a bit what was the final product or is this 1 of those that never finisht
I did the main rat a while ago, i'm not totally happy with it, but its so low down on priorities i honestly couldnt care less.

The rat is more than good enough for now, but Rav ,if you are gonna rework it in future consider using lukkar concept art, as it's awesome.
