here is a little tutorial for

here is a little tutorial for the leather..

iam actually not very experienced with texture making but that is my idea to keep control over the leather detail and make it easy to create the spec map.

i dont sculpt fine surface details in zbrush, i just take the difuse map, convert it into a normal map and mix it with the baked normal map to add surface detail. maybe my little tut help to get the idea.

They look beautiful! Really

They look beautiful! Really love how you still captured the uniqueness enough for them to be an artifact, but still kept them looking used and "common".

Fantastic Model Smartinus!

Fantastic Model Smartinus! The texturing is great and you should definitely keep posting up tutorials if you can :)

I am going the be 'that Guy' however, and just suggest a few changes (only because i think your more than capable to handle it :) )

A) I would knock back the AO. Usually i duplicate the AO and have one on 20% opacity and on color burn, then the other on 50% opacity and on Multiply. It gives a touch of color to the recesses.

B) The leather texture can do with some strategic placement. Check these boots:

Where the leather gets bent and folded it tends to crack and expose the raw leather underneath. Although you have done this in your image, my first impression was that it looked like mud splatter. So instead of cracks, try some horizontal lines that criss cross up your boot - following the natural way the boot would fold and crease (although it looks like a very stiff boot).

If you are free for a Skype or Google Hangout i would like to show you some stuff :)

hey robbinsmoth,

hey robbinsmoth,

i like your ideas and definitly keep your suggestion in mind. i did not think about that yet. i will use your ideas with the next project when leather is involved...

iam not sure if iam motivated to do the change on these boots now, but when i test your ideas on the next boots, and the effort is not to high, i gonna change that here too.

thx for sharing your idea. really, i think it gonna improve my boot texturing.
