TES Construction Set | Getting Started

I have somewhat played around with the TES Construction Set beforehand, but by far I am no expert. I have completed very basic tutorials such as creating an interior, linking the interior doors, creating an NPC with voice dialogue, creating AI tasks, creating a very basic fetch quest, etc.

Whilst the newer - TES Creation Kit - gets a ton of love, I have noticed the older utility gets far less. There are not many decent video tutorials for TES IV: Oblivion. Many video tutorials are of low quality.

I know of the Official Oblivion Construction Set and the Construction Set Extender. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Perhaps .ini edits/tweaks, or additional steps?

  • What should I do to get started?
  • What preparations should I do?
  • Any decent resources?

In the past I would try to create my very own worldspace from scratch. Now, I have decided that I would like to focus on smaller projects, such as implementing a new settlement into Cyrodiil. I would like to be able to find a suitable location and be able to navigate there in the Editor, some how.

I would be using Vanilla Assets, since I lack the required skills to make such assets of my own.

I remember one video that

I remember one video that explained how to create dialogue in Oblivion, the uploader was a woman, maybe from Japan given her accent, but it seems you have already gone over that subject.

I didn't watch many videos, but the Construction Set Wiki is very, very useful. https://cs.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page Sometimes it can be hard to search, but it's a huge repository of information that Google doesn't seem to care much about.

Thanks for the reply. I have looked at the CS Wiki, lots of useful information. I'm still struggling with generating an in-game world map for a brand new world space. If I found enough passionate volunteers, I wish I could establish a mod project team one day.

Use TES4LL to generate a map

Use TES4LL to generate a map background, then use a graphical program like GIMP or Photoshop to draw a decent map based on that. The easiest way to deal with TES4LL is through MPGUI. All of it is on Nexus.
