Grumpy, recomended I post a thread before I start, and he was right, imagine if I had spent 8 hours on a weapon and find out someone else did it. I actualy did a few hours on the short sword, which shall be turned into a claymore.
Ok, so I went ahead and modeled out a block out of the weapons to get a grasp of the proportions, the most important part. I've seen some people re-imagine the weapons quite a bit, but I think I'm going to be faithful the original. Where I will differ most will probably be the textures and fine details.
So if you want to point out problems with proportions, this is the time
also, you'll notice the long bow isn't in there, I simply forgot, I'll do it later
Yeah, I would like to point out one important thing. Remember, that some of the weapons are held differently in Skyrim. For example if you compare two handed axes, or lets say hammers. You probably will have to make longer shafts. Maybe a good idea is to import skyrims weapons and see how they fit, if the difference is not that big, or for example it occurs on the blade, then probably you can leave it be, but you want your weapons to be held well and for that you need to adjust them to Skyrims animations - hence - compare it to skyrims weapons.
If somebody started make this weapon , please tell me about it !!!!!
i really want help! , i little know , how make texture , and I can make 3d model with any picture ! ,

Ok, so I've started on the claymore. While researching weapons, I noticed that the morrowind clay more has some key differences to real claymores, so I did two versions of the claymore, one that is kinda faithful to the original, and another that is more true to the Scottish style. Feel free to tell me which looks better.
As for the proportions, if someone could send me the skyrim models, for reference, that would be great.
#1 feels better, as I feel the dipping proportions of the handle with the thicker blade seems a little wonky in the second example. Also if I might throw a suggestion about how the thicker, bottom part of the blade joins the rest of it - refer to plasmax' rendition of the shortsword to see how he did it so that there may be a bit of consistency between the style of the Daedric weapons.
At first I didn't think these weapons would need a redesign, but I think a small one could be in order. That hilt is not something either a man or Dremora would like to hold. I've made a quick mockup of the desired shape:
Sorry I didn't post it earlier, but somehow this thread missed my attention. If you could get it to that shape it would be awesome - keeps the feel of the original, while being ergonomically viable, which is important with more realistic Skyrim's animations in comparison to Morrowind.
What you want to keep in mind is that all two handed swords in Morrowind were named claymore, but only one was resembling it (the steel one). I really wouldn't go for making all swords look like proper Scottish claymores, especially since we're probably renaming them to simply greatswords anyway. Another thing you want to avoid is the awful maneur Skyrim swords had - the paddle look. They'd have massive, very broad and very thick blades, which looked silly compared to very small and thin handles (which couldn't be bigger since the character's hands are of realistic size).
Make the handle thicker, but leave the blade as it is. I assure you, I don't want to kill fantasy by pushing everything to be realistic, but I want to go slightly more viable compared to Morrowind, and much more compared to Skyrim. Weapons can still look crazy and awesome while remaining something that could actually be used in combat.
ok so I've made some progress, not much, but its some. I added the letter engraving using the alpha set ravana posted, its pretty much giberlish, I hope no one minds.
I have a question for anyone who is intrested in giving me there opnion. What material is the grip made of? The orignal is bluish, So I'm thinking shagreen, but I also feel a plain shagreen grip might be boring, I don't know, feel free to give sugestions.
I prefer the broad blades on these swords, but I'm glad someone mentioned the practicality of the hilt! That thing is almost as dangerous to its wielder. It would be good to get rid of the two razors on this. Maybe Ieave edge on the done one but on rest I hope we get a good baIance between practicaI and the originaI.
The engraving is really good, gives it some character. When we get a closer render I'll get to deciphering what could've you written there :P
However, could you please move the spikes as I described? The sword would benefit greatly from it, not only practicality - wise, but the silhouette would be more interesting too.
However, could you please move the spikes as I described? The sword would benefit greatly from it, not only practicality - wise, but the silhouette would be more interesting too.
I prefer them where they were. The bIade seems more visuaIIy baIanced and those things are reaIIy onIy decorative. Higher up on the sword they might get in the way of the chopping
They wouldn't. It's a twohander. Those spikes are called ricasso, and they're an additional crossguard in case the user would like to put one hand over the main crossguard for better manouverability.
Vast majority of two handed swords had that. And to really see how it works visually you should look at the whole weapon.
I dont think its right to say the "vast maority'' had crossguards. The daedric hiIt here also is much Ionger and the crossguard is out of proportion. A smaller one slightly lower down might look alright.
You really don't have to teach art director and a member of HEMA about sword designs Sasquatch. I don't like to wave my stuff around, but please drop it here. Trust me on that decision. I don't want this to turn into another huge war thread about a stupid detail of one model.
A lot of feedback to look at. Ok, so I choped up the sword and moved around acording to suggestions, and came with these two versions, from what I understood in the feedbacks. So feel free to give me your opnions on which you like the most, In the end, becuase I'm the artist doing these, I have the final say, but I like to hear peoples suggestions and ideas.
Imo, both the blade and the hilt could have a bit more girth to it (But we're talking some more redisign of the original, not sure if you're willing to do that).
Enter epic paint sk1llz (blade's a bit messed up) below.
Above is me-version, below is original.
Just keep in mind there is such a thing as art direction in Skywind ;) There's not been any concepts done for these weapons, but I'd really like them to fall into a general concept I've set in my mind for Skywind. I hope you don't mind?
And yeah, that last screenshot looks great, good job! Would you post a render of the whole thing, so that we can see the full silhouette of that sword?
I don't intend to instigate a "war" by including my opinions and some doctored images. The link was included for those who are interested and to show I've read up on this topic. I also agree with DETESRP about the width of sword. It just isnt as satisfying, visually. The sword looks weak so thin.
And I agree. Looking at it, it could use a bit more volume in the width, as long as both the grip and the blade gets it equally. DETESRP's visuallisation works really nicely, and it's a big improvement over the original - we can definetly go with that. Just please do not go overboard and try to avoid Skyrim's paddle look.
I'm not sure if it's an optical illusion created by the thin width or not, but the greatswords from Morrowind seem to be a lot longer than those from Skyrim. Like ground clipping length.
I echo the thought about the blade being too thin. It looks even slimmer than the short sword, which seems wrong for a brutal weapon like a claymore - especially moreso for one of Daedric construct. This weapon should have some girth to it and feel like it could cleave men & mer alike in two. Bring on some pain! ;)
Ok, lots of responses. I just want to say thank you for all ideas and suggestions, I appreciate all of them.I'm doing this for free and for fun, I like to hear people ideas, but I'm not going to get involved in any arguments or discussion.
With that said, I'd like to point out a posted the block out for a reason, so if anyone had any suggestions about the proportions I could change them before I got into detail, as such I'll have to ignore lavargs suggestion.
Now, I've thickened the blade and the cross guard, keep in my, that proportionally, the claymore blade is now twice as thick as the Shortwood.
I've changed a few other small things, I'm not 100% sure I like how it looks with the spike moved up, as dragomir suggested, I'll have to work on it more and see how I feel.
Good work so far. Blade length needs to be at least double the handle length from that second crossguard up. I think Lavargs silhouette looks good, but this is a matter of sacrificing some of the original look for practicality.
Yeah, the blade could use a bit more wideness. Also the tip could have a bit more interesting shape. I think of two possibilities, up to you to choose.
Left one with a thickening to feel more like a weapon suited for hacking, or a stabby needle on the right.
You definetly can, and I know at least that stabbing is what they've been mainly used for in history ;) (waiting for another "duh, we're not recreating history, dumbass" comment)
I realize that I'm terribly late with this, but the claymore design just doesn't look true to the original to me, and I'll try to make some suggestions on how it could be made more in line with the original design.
I very much support the idea of adding a ricasso, but it just doesn't feel right if you simply put the two crossguards further apart without modification. To me the defining part of the original Morrowind claymore is the crossguard structure:
Note the two concentric ellipses with the same curvature that define the neighbouring edges of the two crossguards. This element unites the two crossguards, makes them one structure. Here is a rough layout for adapting this approach for the ricasso case, with the two crossguards futher apart:
And this basic shape could be further refined into something along these lines:
Bonus round: more functional greater crossguard. The curvature here is off (this was drawn without the guide ellipses), hence the two crossguards do not feel like a united whole:
I'd love to hear any input on this from the art directors, although I'm probably too late for this model anyway.
Also, is concept art at this level wanted for any Skywind props? I might be able to contribute such sketches if anyone's interested.
When talking about Daedric weapons I think we need to throw the concept of practicality out the window. It is designed to look cool not to look 100% practicle. all i've been seeing is "that doesn't look practicle enough". So what? I am glad Plasmax decided to leave the bottom of the crossguard on the shortsword sharpened.
Cabius- Stop shuffling up the forums and reviving older threads. For one thing it draws attention away from things that are actually being worked on. For another thing it gets my hopes up that there is progress and then I get let down. Go find something productive to do.
Ok sorry, It is not my intention to cause any trouble. I was just commenting on how good these models look. I am currently doing some modeling for fun, not sure if I am good enough to do anything for the mod though. Is Blender ok to use?
pretty sure you can't "claim" anything, lol. Especially if you haven't made any progress whatsoever.
someone did shortsword already- http://tesrenewal.com/forums/skyrim/skywind-development-foru...
someone also did the battleaxe but i cant find it
Grumpy, recomended I post a thread before I start, and he was right, imagine if I had spent 8 hours on a weapon and find out someone else did it. I actualy did a few hours on the short sword, which shall be turned into a claymore.
I think its best to make the entire set, and not just one weapon. Will look strange if every weapon had a different style.
That's actually sort of a rule here. If you start a weapon, you should make the whole set. Consistency and such.
Ok, so I went ahead and modeled out a block out of the weapons to get a grasp of the proportions, the most important part. I've seen some people re-imagine the weapons quite a bit, but I think I'm going to be faithful the original. Where I will differ most will probably be the textures and fine details.

ouch, right in the balls
